入侵乌克兰第26日，俄军推进速度与上周相比明显加快，但也让战况更加惨烈、双方死伤更为严重，乌克兰“亚速营”称，光是马里乌波尔（Mariupol）的白天，几乎平均每10分钟就会受到1次来自俄军的炮袭；乌国官方统计，截自目前俄军总共投下约1080枚导弹，造成无数平民伤亡，其中还包括112名儿童被炸死，使俄方倍受国际谴责。

据乌克兰战略通信中心指出，俄军于当地时间20日深夜，向被围困多日的马里乌波尔发出最后通牒，要求市长于今（21）日清晨5时前投降，但遭到该市市长严词拒绝；同时俄军还声称，击杀93名“身穿平民服装的民族主义份子”，试图以此掩盖屠杀平民的事实。
